The New Buckland Bear Market

I don’t mean to be depressin’ or nothin’ friends, but life, well…it’s real tough sometimes. Heck, there’s all kinds of things that can go wrong, and the history of the world ain’t all that rosy now, is it? Yep, war, famine, poverty, hunger - the list is a long and terrible one, there ain’t no doubt about that. But it’s also true that life is full of wondrous, happy things too. There ain’t nothin’ quite like sittin’ on yer back porch, glass of whiskey in hand, just enjoyin’ the sun slowly settin’ on the prairie. Sometimes you just need to sit back and enjoy the little things in life.

Now if you’ve been followin’ our story, you know things don’t always go well fer Buckley, but usin’ his ingenuity and instinct, he always manages to find some kind of solution to the problems he ends up bein’ faced with. That’s one of the many reasons why we here at The Bearmint Minin’ Company revere him as we do. Last week we shared the story of how our project went from a simple prospectin’ endeavor to a complex operation consistin’ of several movin’ parts. The town of New Buckland ended up enjoyin’ some real growth and development as the company went from strength to strength, and fer the longest while, all was well in the land…

But in time, things started to level out, and the energy and positivity in the town seemed to die down. In fact, folks workin’ at the company weren’t particularly motivated or productive either. It seemed that a dark cloud had descended over New Buckland, and it was somethin’ significant enough that ol’ Buckley himself took notice. He decided to go around town talkin’ to folks, tryin’ to determine exactly what it was that seemed to have them so down and listless. Not all the townsfolk were all that happy to share how they felt with Buck, and bein’ the gentleman he is, Buck didn’t trouble ‘em any further. However, those that did answer gave Buckley some real interestin’ feedback…

Accordin’ to more than a few of the town’s inhabitants, folks just didn’t really feel a sense of community and togetherness and just felt like there weren’t all that much to look forward to. Buckley had faced off against bandits, strange creatures, tricksters and outsmarted some of the fiercest varmints and forces this world has to offer, but he had never faced a predicament quite like this. Buck headed back to his property and poured himself a drink as he gazed out across the open plains. Without a happy, united community, New Buckland stood the very real risk of becomin’ a terrible place, and that would almost certainly spell the end of The Bearmint Minin’ Company.

Buckley sat down and tried to think of ideas to cheer up the people of the town, but nothin’ really came to mind. What made folks happy? What brought ‘em together? Buckley thought back to when he was just a cub and all the things that made him feel joy - he remembered the festivals they would have back home filled with music and dancin’ and all the tastiest food you could eat. Those sure were some of the best times of his life. And then the answer hit Buckley like a steam train careenin’ outta control!

The next day, Buckley got up early and set to work makin’ posters. When he was all done, he proceeded to put ‘em up all over town. Folks were mighty intrigued by Buck’s behavior and more than a little eager to read what the posters had on ‘em. Much to their delight, the posters read:

THE NEW BUCKLAND BEAR MARKET!

Coming this weekend, all residents of New Buckland are invited to the 1st Annual New Buckland Bear Market!

Contact Buckley if you want to secure yourself a stall and sell your wares to the public. Space is limited, so be sure to apply ASAP!

Word quickly spread through the town, and before Buckley knew it, he had all kinds of folks linin’ up to secure their stalls at The New Buckland Bear Market! Buck was so surprised that he had to get some of his assistants to help with all of the applications! By the end of the day, Buck was tired as all get-out, so he hit the hay and slept like the dead.

The next day there was all kinds of hustlin’ and bustlin’ as Buck oversaw preparations fer The Bear Market. Stalls had to be set up, entertainment organized, and the proper processes put in place to make sure everyone would be well looked after. Buck delegated some tasks to his assistants but also made sure he did his part so that nothin’ was left to chance. If Buck’s idea was gonna work, he knew he’d have to give it his all.

Finally, Saturday mornin’ arrived, and the 1st Annual New Buckland Bear Market started! In no time at all folks were movin’ from stall to stall, buyin’ all kinds of tasty treats and new trinkets fer their houses. There was music and dancers, and all went down real well with the townsfolk! Festivities carried on into Sunday, and there was even a short theatrical performance by a travellin’ group of actors. At the end of The Bear Market, there was a big ol’ parade and much celebration that went on fer several hours. The townsfolk were overjoyed, and Buckley’s big bet turned out better than he could’ve ever expected!

So now every year around the same time, The New Buckland Bear Market goes into full swing, and each year always seem a little bigger and more impressive than the last. Needless to say, all the townsfolk felt a lot more motivated and much happier after the 1st Bear Market, and now they all have somethin’ to look forward to! Buck understood that the community and their satisfaction was crucial if we wanted to ensure the continued success and growth of The Bearmint Minin’ Company. After all, without a strong community, what does a feller really have anyway?

Moral of this here story is: despair can set in at any time fer any reason, so the only way to take care of that is to give folks somethin’ that brings ‘em together and gives ‘em hope. If you put the people around you first and look after one another, there’s almost nothin’ you can’t achieve! And don’t forget to enjoy the little things in life, because at the end of the day, that’s all we really have, amigos!
