The Bearmint Minin' Company!

Greetings Pilgrims! We certainly hope you’ve been enjoyin’ the many stories of Buckley’s adventures over the past few months. Yep, ol’ Buck sure has had a life filled with some extraordinary experiences and colorful characters, but these days he spends most of his time overseein’ work at The Bearmint Minin’ Company. Of course he ain’t the only one makin’ sure everythin’ runs smoothly and that validation takes place as expected. To keep everythin’ fair, he has a couple of validators helpin’ to make sure that new blocks get created every couple of seconds. But at the outset, things weren’t all that simple…

When Buck started out, all he had was his trusty shovel and cactus. While he could get the tokens himself, it wasn’t exactly what you’d call an “efficient” process. No sir, this here was hard, manual labor, and while Buck was no stranger to hard work, he knew that it’s much better to work smart. Now if he’d been back on the farm or closer to civilization, then he’d have had a much easier time gettin’ the necessary materials to build the infrastructure required to make several parts of the minin’ process significantly easier (and faster fer that matter). Trouble is, Buck was in the middle of the desert, so there wasn’t a soul fer miles around. New Buckland wasn’t even a thought at that time, so Buckley was in a real tricky predicament.

Buck also knew he’d need to protect what he’d uncovered, so there was no way he could actually leave the area and get the materials he would need to start buildin’ his operation. The only reasonable course of action Buckley could think of was gettin’ in contact with someone who would be able to get the necessary resources from a settlement and deliver them directly to Buck’s immediate location. Now even though this was the digital Wild West, modes of communication were limited to say the very least. Buckley thought a while, tryin’ to decide how to get someone’s attention so that they could help him out. Then suddenly, it hit him - Buckley would build a big ol’ fire and use smoke signals to get someone to lend him a helpin’ hand!

Well, Buck set straight to work gatherin’ up as much old wood, bark and practically anythin’ else that would burn into a pile and started a huge fire as soon as he was able. In no time at all, a long, billowin’ plume of black smoke was driftin’ across the azure blue skies above Buckley’s furry head. It also occurred to Buck that his little plan might not attract someone decent, but that was just a chance he would have to take…

A few hours passed, and Buck was beginnin’ to think that nobody was gonna head on through. But then, on the horizon, he saw someone on horseback comin’ straight towards him! Of course Buckley had no idea if the rider was hostile or not, but he waited patiently fer the feller to come into view. It was another bear, and thankfully, he was a ranger who was actually ridin’ between towns. Buck explained the situation to the rider and agreed to reward him if he helped get him the materials he needed to set up his minin’ operation. The rider thought fer a while, and after some consideration, he agreed to help Buckley out!

After a celebratory drink and some vittles, the rider got back up on his horse and told Buck he’d return in 3 to 4 days with wagons carryin’ wood, nails, food and other materials so that work could commence. The rider reared his horse back, and with that, he set off to round up all the necessary supplies fer Buckley’s new enterprise.

In the meantime, Buckley spent his time plannin’ things like what to build first, what tasks he’d need to carry out before addin’ new features and how he saw everythin’ workin’ in the long run. Buck didn’t sleep too much fer those few days, but he knew that havin’ some kind of framework would make the process of settin’ up an operation that much easier. The last thing he wanted was fer the wagons to show up and there to be no kind of plan of action in place! That would be nothin’ short of a total disaster!

Then, after 3 long, exhausting days, the rider and the wagons arrived with everythin’ Buckley needed to start buildin’! Thankfully the rider had taken note of all of Buck’s requests, so practically everythin’ Buck needed to start work was readily available for him. After offloading all the wagons, Buckley requested that the rider and a few others stay with him to help him carry out the work. He promised those who remained rewards and a stake in The Bearmint Minin’ Company. Needless to say, everyone present agreed, and an uproarious celebration followed soon thereafter!

And so work commenced the very next day with everyone pitchin’ in and gettin’ everythin’ required in place. It was many days of intense work, but as more and more phases of the project were completed, the easier things became. Pretty soon The Bearmint Minin’ Company was a full-scale operation, and as it expanded, more folks began to settle nearby, and as we explained in our very first tale…New Buckland was born!

Moral of this here story is: sometimes you just gotta put yer faith in others and rely on them fer their expertise. Yep, at the end of the day, blockchains are built by dedicated developers and committed members of the community. This is what it’s all about. If you can leverage the strengths of those around you and work together towards a common goal, why, there ain’t nothin’ you can’t achieve, amigos!
