The Bandits of New Buckland

Amigos, there’s many folks that want nothin’ more than to follow the rules and do their part in helpin’ build society into somethin’ better…but, truth be told, there’s some fearsome individuals what done earned themselves a reputation fer their love of chaos and general disorder. Yep, Buckley knows just as well as the next honest upstandin’ citizen that lawlessness is a problem in a place that lacks the necessary oversight to ensure that nobody loses out…and even when such oversight exists, there’s no guaranteein’ that everyone will always be happy and comfortable.

It’s for this very reason that Buckley never stops workin’ to ensure that New Buckland is kept safe from harm, and he’s had more than a few run-ins with some truly unsavory varmints. Now I ain’t gonna get into the specifics of those encounters - not today at least…but I am gonna tell you about some of the more nefarious critters that roam the plains of the digital Wild West lookin’ to bring untold calamity to any poor soul that might cross their path.

A particularly unruly posse goes by the name of ‘The Consensus Coyotes.’ This masked gang of delinquents do their best to steal the keys of unsuspectin’ validators in order to take over networks and rob folks of their tokens. Word has it that they’ll find validators, barge in on ‘em and hold ‘em up at gunpoint, demandin’ that they hand over their one and only validator key. Needless to say, for fear of their lives, validators always hand over their prized key, and because of the inherent flaws in how most systems work, they never recover. Yep, many a validator and even entire networks have fallen prey to their awful antics, and for this reason, they’re widely regarded as one of the biggest threats out there.

Then there’s Hacker Hawke - now this lone bandit may not seem like much of a threat, but he’s one of the fastest guns around and has an eagle eye for vulnerabilities. That’s right, before ya can say ‘active delegate,’ Hawke’ll draw his revolver and put a bullet clean between yer eyes! Hawke looks fer holes in code so that he can pull off all kinds of heists, stealin’ millions of dollars worth of tokens in the process. He loves copy-pasted code recklessly shoehorned into new protocols that have never been properly tested or audited…so far, all attempts to catch Hawke have been fruitless, and the only man…er, bear…to ever survive an encounter with Hawke is ol’ Buckley…but that story’s fer another day.

Next up we have Venture Capital Vulture…now when you meet this feller, you’ll think he’s the most upstandin’ and respectable individual you ever met. Dressed in a tailored suit and wearin’ genuine leather boots, V.C. (as most prefer to call him) buys in early to projects and uses his considerable wealth to bamboozle poor folks into buyin’ in and pumpin’ up the price of the token…and just as it looks like everythin’ is gonna go to the moon…he sells all of his personal holdings, crashin’ the price and leavin’ countless already-desperate people even poorer than when they started out. Oh the despair he’s left in his wake! The promise of a new paradigm and untold wealth makes investors chomp at the bit to buy in, and when the inevitable crash comes…well, bewilderment is an understatement. Fact is, buyin’ into hype is never a good idea, and if some ludicrously wealthy feller invests in somethin’ - it ain’t cos he wants you to make money…it’s cos he wants your money.

Of course, this is just a small sample of the bad actors out there…and in all honesty, while they’re all nasty in their own way, it’s those folks who seem like good, honest people, the ones ya don’t see comin’, that hurt ya the most. Security and privacy are major concerns, and Buckley dedicates a great deal of time to providin’ folks with everything they need to avoid the worst pitfalls.

Moral of this here story is: think carefully and take yer time before buyin’ into a project, and if you’re a developer, make sure yer code is properly tested and that you’ve addressed any possible vectors a hacker could use to carry out an attack. Not every problem requires a complex solution…just something simple and clever. If you have any concerns over security or privacy when it comes to your application, speak to us, and we’ll come up with an intelligent solution to address yer concerns…heck, we might already have the solution ready for you! Buckley and the Bearmint Gang are dedicated to makin’ things safer and easier for all folks, so you can depend on us if you ever need anything at all!
